Dhaka festival to screen 25 Iranian films and docs

The 15th Dhaka International Film Festival is to screen several Iranian films in different sections.

The 2017 edition of Dhaka International Film Festival has been scheduled to screen several Iranian films and documentaries in a number of sections.

The Asian Film Competition will screen ‘Malaria’ by Parviz Shahbazi, ‘Daughter’ by Reza Mirkarim, ‘Paris Tehran’ by Kaveh Oveisi, and ‘Life and a Day’ by Saeed Roustaee from Iran as well as ‘Parting’ by Navid Mahmoudi which is a joint production from Afghanistan and Iran.

The Cinema of the World section will display ‘Until Ahmed Returns’ by Sadeq Sadeq-Daqiqi, ‘Hailstone and Sunlight’ by Reza Karimi, and ‘Nobody Dies Here’ by Hossein Kondori.

The Children Film Session is to screen ‘Identity’ by Behrouz Sebt-Rasoul, ‘The Window’ by Rahbar Qanbari, and ‘Valderama’ by Abbas Amini.

The Short & Independent Section is slated to show ‘One Day Later’ by Ehsan Hemmati, ‘Chasing’ by Armin Ebrahimi as well as ‘The Old Man and Bicycle’ by Salim Moezzi.

The event’s Woman Filmmaker section is to present ‘Night Shift’ by Niki Karimi, ‘Nahid’ by Ida Panahandeh, and ‘The Society of Dreams’ by Golandam Safari from Iran, as well as ‘Chandra’ by Fatemeh Ahmadi and Asmita Shrish which is coproduction of Iran and Nepal.

The Spiritual Film Section will screen ‘Charm’ by Jalal Dehqani, ‘The Sis’ by Marjan Ashrafizadeh, and ‘The Cemetery Men’ by Ali Mardomi.

The event has dedicated a special section to two recently deceased filmmakers Abbas Kiarostami from Iran and Yeşim Ustaoğlu from Turkey. The films by Kiarostami to go on the event’s screen are ‘Close Up’, ‘Taste of Cherry’, ‘The Wind Will Carry Us’, ‘Certified Copy’, and ‘Like Someone in Love’.

Established in 1992, the 15th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival will be held on January 12-22, 2017, in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
